piling right up.

You guys, yesterday was kind an overwhelming day out there in the world.

So overwhelming that after coming home on time, making dinner, and watching election returns, I put myself to bed at 9:00 PM.

I left the office right at five, which, despite being well within my rights, felt pretty liberating.

It also meant that I could make this for dinner.

Nothing like a little Pioneer Woman tomato cream pasta to get the evening started right.

Other things that rocked my world last night:

1. The bizarre story of the mayor of Toronto smoking crack cocaine. I mean, really? Who is this guy, and why is he admitting that not only did he do this, but he can’t really remember because he was so wasted at the time.

Also, as JW pointed out, he admitted this all while wearing an NFL tie from the 90s.

2. Terry McAuliffe wins the governor’s seat in Virginia. Maybe more importantly, Ken Cuccinelli loses. I like to think that women are finally sick of weird, white dudes insisting on horrible things like getting vaginal ultrasounds as part of their abortion procedures and pretending they know what’s best for our bodies.

Luckily, the state of Virginia took care of wondering what a place like that looks like.

3. Charlie Trotter died yesterday at the age of 54. One of the most influential  and successful chefs around, and a son of Chicago, this one was shocking.

And also sad.

Life’s short, chickens. Doesn’t matter who you are. Be nice to each other.

4. Last, but certainly not least, yesterday the State of Illinois joined 14 other states in making it a law that it doesn’t matter if you’re gay or straight, you can get married.

I’m proud of us for signing on, but to be honest chickadees, I’m just starting to get embarrassed of anyone who isn’t.

People who believe, truly believe, that gay people shouldn’t have the same rights to marriage as straight people are really embarrassing to me.

You’re literally both advocating against civil rights and hating a whole segment of the population right out loud.

Keep it to yourself, crazies- you’re just making yourselves look silly.

And all of that, my friends, is why I needed 10 hours of sleep last night. Sometimes the world is a bit much, but it’s nothing that a good night of rest can’t fix. I’m ready to get back out there this morning. Enjoy the sunshine if you’ve got it.
